  • Presenting our basic, unscented and fragrance free bath salt mix: Just a Good Book!

This mix was inspired by the bookish friends of mine who are sensitive to fragrances – even essential oils. This is our discounted, base mix that fits along with whatever your current read may be, which is probably Just a Good Book (see what I did there? Wink wink). OR if you have essential oils, dried flowers, etc. already at home that you know and love, you can have the luxury of getting this base mix and using whatever additives you enjoy!

For Just a Good Book, since there is no scent profile, I decided to highlight the benefits of the natural ingredients included in both this mix as well as all others!

Epsom Salt: Years ago, I used to be a ballet dancer. I can tell you from personal experience how much Epsom salt saved my sore feet. Epsom salt relieves pain and inflammation, and is a lovely ingredient for soothing sore muscles.

Himalayan Sea Salt: Maybe this question is for my coastal customers. Have you ever been told that ocean water will help heal injuries? As a child growing up by the beach, I remember seeing cuts and scrapes fade away faster after a swim. Himalayan Sea Salt can act in a similar way by helping remove skin irritations and blemishes.

Jojoba Oil: This is one of my favorites. Jojoba oil provides super deep skin hydration. It’s rich in Vitamin E (like many facial/bath and body products out there!) which leaves your skin feeling soft and resilient.

Baking Soda: Last but not least, this ingredient does more than you would think. Baking soda is naturally alkaline, meaning it can balance pH levels of the skin and even neutralize toxins by drawing it out of the body. Do your own research as well on the benefits of bathing in baking soda. I’ve read it can even help ease certain infections and rashes!

I hope you find all of this as interesting as I do. I think it’s vital to use products that are natural and overall healthy, especially for something as important as our skin!

  • Here is our second themed bath salt mix: The Hidden Vale!

Find this product for purchase through pressing the Etsy icon on the homepage our by using this link: https://bookishbathbeauty.etsy.com

The Hidden Vale is inspired by the Fourth Wing book series, curated to transport you to Deaconshire, the Vale of dragons. I had a blast creating this complex scent profile. Here are all my explanations of scent choices!

Bergamot ~ Top Note: So, for those who are obsessed with the character Xaden, you know why I had to choose a citrus note. For those who don’t know, Xaden is explained as having this scent somewhere “between citrus and floral… something you can’t quite identify.” Bergamot is the perfect blend of citrus and floral, and although the fragrance of the Vale may not always include Xaden… sometimes it does. He was there at Threshing, was he not? I felt it would be wrong to not include one of the most specific scents explained in the book.

Neroli ~ Middle Note: For the original test run, I did not include this essential oil. However, with my first try at mixing both citrus and leather scents only, the result came across either as too masculine (too leathery) or too… sterile (too citrusy in an all-purpose cleaner kind of way). Neroli was the perfect answer to blend the conflicting scents together and create a more cohesive fragrance. Now, this scent seems to be everyone’s favorite so far! Lesson of the story: Trial and errors are GOOD things that can lead to a successful product. I also realized the Vale is told to have wildflowers in its meadows, so including a flower was necessary for applying that detail!

Cedarwood & Myrrh ~ Base Note: Blending these two essential oils together made a beautifully rich scent mimicking leather. The reason I had my heart set on making a natural leather fragrance work is because I imagine all the riders wearing their riding leathers on Threshing day. Plus don’t you think dragons would smell kind of leathery? Like, their hide would feel like leather, right? Another reason I was excited to use Cedarwood specifically is for highlighting the trees that would be present in the Vale, giving the profile a slight woodsy note.

As mentioned before, we are proud to present these products as natural with no synthetic fragrances. We exclusively use essential oils mixed along with a carrier oil – Jojoba oil – to create scent profiles. I also believe the oil is a luxurious highlight that leaves your skin feeling amazing, as we have heard customers express already!

  • I present to you The Spring Court Bath Salt mix!

Find this product for purchase through pressing the Etsy icon on the homepage our by using this link: https://bookishbathbeauty.etsy.com

These homemade bath salts are inspired by A Court of Thorns and Roses, curated to transport you (or winnow you!) to the Spring Court. I had so much fun deciding the scent profile for this set and I would love to share in more detail why I chose each scent.

Grapefruit ~ Top Note: Tangy, sour, sweet… For those who’ve read the book, do you think it’s safe to say the Spring Court leaves a bit of a bittersweet taste in your mouth? I won’t say more for those who haven’t had the ACOTAR experience yet! I also think this citrus scent is perfect for transitioning from winter to a spring day, as grapefruit is naturally a winter/spring seasonal fruit.

Rose ~ Middle Note: This one is pretty obvious. But more than the name of the scent being in the title of the book, Rose essential oil is lush and deep and romantic. I just LOVE the way the dense Rose scent mixes with the lighter scent of Grapefruit and balances each other out so well.

Frankincense ~ Base Note: We often associate this scent with tradition and religion, and my mind immediately went to Calanmai and the deep hold that tradition has on the Spring Court. Frankincense is also a very dense luxurious scent that acts as a prefect base note for a regal scent profile.

Another important thing to note is that I could have ventured out to explore other scents, but decided to keep everything all natural, meaning I only used (and will always only use) essential oils to create fragrances. Your skin is often referred to as your body’s biggest “organ”, so we want to be mindful and choose the best ingredients for it!
